begin your journey in Sidalicia.
The western culture gives the world its name. In the vast empire of Sidalicia, the inhabitants placated the Goddess of chaos, and named their city/empire after her. Strangely, those inhabitants are not at all chaotic, but models of administration, fairly liberal justice, and conquering warfare. Sidalicia is on the rise as an empire, let there be no mistake about it.
New Draconia is on the rise as well, but not as fast, and without as much conquest to accompany that rise. Peace has recently been brokered between the two nations and their allies, and the other races of the world, as well as the humans who founded New Draconia and Sidalicia, hope the peace will last, for everyone's sake. Knowing the humans though, it is unlikely to do so.
Each of the civilized races on Sidalicia has its own culture and country or tribal area. Most are focussed on hometowns, such as New Draconia, Korholt, or Erttols. For more on each race, and the area it controls, see the races webpage.
There are also uncivilized races, those which are usually, if not always, in opposition with the civilized races. Most of them originate around the Sundering Gap, or in the ice wastes of the far north, although there are a few also in the IgnisRain and the deep forests. Periodically these races band together and issue forth, doing great destruction and causing great mayhem. It is rumored that such an eruption is boiling amongst the beings of the Sundering Gap at this time.
History, myths and legends say that long ago in Sidalicia dragons ruled.
The age of dragons is now looked upon as a golden age. In spite of this, scholars will now tell you that the dragons ruled just as intemperately and unjustly as any ruler of these times, and the golden aura surrounding that ancient age is mostly fable.
Dragon times ended in a terrible cataclysm, when all the lord dragons died or fled, and their gods disappeared or faded away. Now there is little sign that the dragons ever existed -- although the names of their gods are echoed in the names of the days and months and mutations of their gods are worshiped to this day -- although it is rumored that the Korylan are far descendents of the dragons (a rumor bandied about mostly by the Korylan it should be noted) -- and although adventurers, lords and peasants alike claim to have seen dragons.. at some time, and at some place..
It is said that in the future there will come a time when the dragons return. When they do there were be another golden age in which peace and harmony will reign, when all the races will live in justice, with wealth for all. Or, so it is rumored..
